DJ Kaos (Jolly Jams) Asia tour mix April 2013

We've got DJ Kaos on the decks this week. He's from Berlin and Kaos is a name that refers to his graffiti days. Since the early 00's, DJ Kaos has been spreading a wide variety of disco, house and techno all over the world, having released very succesful EP's for Clone and DFA, but also on important labels like Studio !K7 and Astro Lab Recordings. Amongst releasing a vast body of work, DJ Kaos also found the time to launch his very own imprint in 2010, called Jolly Jams. Jolly Jams has been all about, steady, groovin' house cuts. Often flirting with disco or deep house. The label's been a home to Kaos himself, as well as producers like Split Secs, Tiago and Richard from Milwaukee. The latter just released his new 12" inch through Jolly Jams called Free Love. Including two amazing remixes by Fernando Pulichino and the great Eric Duncan.

The mix has been recorded on the 3rd of April 2013, at the Haze Club in Beijing. There are a few edits, but the flow is amazing, nonetheless.

Episode #010 - Mick Finesse

The tenth episode of DeathMetalDiscoClub is an all-killer, no-filler techno mix done by none other than Stephen Penders from Denver, Colorado! Under his Mick Finesse moniker, Steve has been releasing some of the most interesting techno cuts in 2012. His Tunnel Vision EP on Alistair Wells' Perc Trax has enjoyed major support from some of the biggest names on the scene and at the beginning of this year, he released the succesful follow-up with his conceptual 'The Disaster Began During a System Test' EP, again on Perc Trax.
While having found a perfect homebase in the london label, he also released the Spatial Anxiety EP on Broken20 and found the time to start his own label called 22, which just released it's first EP by himself, including three original track and remixes from Soramimi and Perc himself. 2013 shows no sign of stopping Steve, who will be releasing another EP on Prostethic Pressings and his second remix for Emote. Gig-wise, Steve can be found on most of the Perc Trax showcases, one of which will be part of DEMF 2013, on May 24.

We hope you enjoy his mix as much as we do and if you'd like to know more about Mick Finesse, you can follow him through: www.facebook.com/mickfinesse !

Episode #008 - Svart1

This week we have Raimondo Gaviano on the show, better known as Svart1. He has been releasing a lot of ambient/abstract, minimal music on labels like Kaos Ex Machina, Valve Sinistre, Skulline and Hypermodern. Something you should definetly check out if you like music that covers deeper grounds and understandings!
Once we asked him for a DeathMetalDiscoClub podcast, he was not sure if he could do this, but managed to create a really great mix. Episode #005 - Viktor Palmer

Our fifth guest is Viktor Palmer, who sent us a really versatile, thought-provoking mix for our series. Containing tracks from labels like Blackest Ever Black, Sähkö and Minimal Wave, we probably said enough. He was kind enough to include us the story behind the mix (scroll down below).
Viktor Palmer, based in Amsterdam, is known for his dubby, melancholic, rhythmic and minimalistic techno sets at Trouw. Dropping a lot of obscure and hard-to-find records, we instantly recognized him as a real crate digger. Playing events like Imprint and LET at the infamous Amsterdam venue gave him a lot of exposure and while doing so, certainly left an expression on us. We're pleased to have him on the show and we hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

DeathMetalDiscoClub #005 in Viktor's own words:

"In the past i made a few non-techno mixes like this one. The idea was simple:
compile and mix an hour of music which sounded as claustrophobic and
unpleasant as possible. Soundscapes, almost no straight beats or vocals and
above all: nothing really danceable.

When Death Metal Disco Club asked me to make a podcast where I could do
whatever music I liked, I thought: ‘Let’s bake a cake from that old recipe!’ (well
not really but you know what I mean). So I finished one and it didn’t feel right. It
felt like copying myself, working ‘in the box’, routine-like.

Then I knew I had to do something else. Since I’ve been listening more new
wave/cold wave and synth pop than before, I wanted to combine those sounds
with the more conceptual, non-danceable stuff. Marcel Dettmann did something
like it for Oki-Ni. Check it out, the mix is called ‘Seduction’ and it’s awesome. So
i ditched the mix I made and started with a complete new one, minus the last
track.

First I wanted to use the most strange, bizarre and hard-to-find new wave I could
find, but that didn’t feel right either. After all, non-danceble tracks on the mix are
from Raime, Mika Vainio and Brian Eno, pretty well-known for people who listen
to that kind of music anyway. So I used ‘hits’ from Tropic of Cancer, Suicide, Pas
de Deux and In Aeternam Vale. Music from the Sandwell District Radio mix 2,
Silent Servant mixes and from the Minimal Wave Tape compilations. Maybe not
common for a lot of people, but no ultra-rare, limited edition, 40-euro-on-discogs
stuff if you know what I mean.

I am aware of the fact that the mix is still very conceptual, especially in the
beginning and the end. But I tried to make a balance between music for your
head and your feet. But even if you don’t like the conceptual parts (or the non-
conceptual parts), I hope you enjoy the podcast as a (semi-) coherent piece of
music. Or even better, discover a certain track you love and start searching the
internet or your recordstore for more music like it. If that’s the case, I hope you
let me know. Thanks for reading this really long description too."
