Episode #057 - Mark Vandemaat

Our newest mix has been submitted by Mark Vandemaat. Mark is one of the founders of Knekelhuis, a collective from Amsterdam that hosts events, radio shows and more recently, has launched it’s very own booking agency and record label.
Since we see a lot of similarities between the Deathmetaldisco crew and the Knekelhuis crew, we invited Mark to represent the Knekelhuis sound as best as he could and the result shows absolutely no remorse. It’s bitter, it’s wild, extremely hazardous and dark.

Episode #050 - Mick Wills

We've been puzzling for days to find the right DJ to represent deathmetaldiscoclub #050, our second milestone in the reboot of our guest mix series. Eventually we could call only one name that would satisfy all of our members needs and tastes and represent the deathmetaldiscoclub aesthetic in a perfect way. His name is Mick Wills. He was happy to indulge and we are extremely excited that time has finally arrived for you to check out the result. This really is a perfect fit!

Mick Wills has been one of DJ Hell's Gigolo Records greatest stalwarts for years and he's also an important representative of Traxx's legendary Nation. And there is great reason for this. Mick is one of those very few artists that has always stayed true to his taste. He is absolutely one of the hardest working music diggers in the industry. His selecting skills are truly one of a kind and the combination of his knowledge and technique result into extremely explosive dj sets. Whether it's techno, wave, chicago or italo, he is able to blend it all together into one very consistent story. In fact, Mick is the definition of consistent. He will always give his 200% when it comes to music.
The same goes for his productions, he's been gradually releasing since 2001 (on labels like Tabernacle, Gigolo International, phil e and Minimal Rome). He'd rather release something of amazing quality, than having thirty singles out there that are mediocre. He is not the guy that you'll find on the cover of Mixmag and maybe it is for the better. Because one thing is certain, when it comes music, every choice Mick makes is carefully considered.

Mick Wills has just released a furious remix on Uncanny Valley's Rat Life records and he's also got an amazing new remix for Andreas Gehm's Elec pt. 1 project coming out on Signals. That one could hit the market anytime now.
For now, enjoy his deathmetaldiscoclub #050 anniversary DJ mix and don't forget to check out some of the links below!

Episode #049 - Rude 66

Oh yes. We've got one of Bunker's most prolific producers and executioners on the show this week. It's Rude 66 in the mix!!
Rude (real name: Ruud Lekx) has been making a big name for himself since the early 90's with his dark and raw signature sound. From acid techno to brutal electro and even weird space age electronica, his sound played an important part in the development of the Sound of the Dutch Westcoast. Ruud always stayed true to natural aesthetic of his trademark Bunker sound and this also brought him to release on such notorious labels like I-F's Viewlexx, his own Vynalogue, Acid Planet and DJ TLR's Crème Organization since the early 00's. What a lot of people are not aware of, is that he is also an avid vinyl collector and a superhuman selector.

We've been loyal listeners of his Cosmic Overdrive show on Intergalactic FM for quite some time now. Every monday evening, he hosts his show directly from his 666 lounge, playing all kinds of good music. From Velvet Underground specials, to amazing krautrock and wave sessions, there is a lot to be learned from a man with his knowledge. He's been such an important inspiration to us in recent times, that we just had to invite him to the show and present him to our audience in return. And what a treat it has become!

This exclusive mix is called 'the corners of the grey room' and covers many, many kinds of territories. We could try to describe the mix any further, but it would simply do unjust. It's one hell of a journey that one has to experience all by himself. So without any further ado, we'd like to introduce you to the world of one of our most favorite honest selectors of this very moment: the world of Rude 66. Enjoy!!

Episode #030 - Disko Selectors

We are really happy to welcome the Disko Selectors to the DMDC podcast for our 30th episode this week. The Disko Selectors are Roi Canda and Javi Deeman from Valladolid, Spain and they've certainly proved themselves as a forced to be reckoned with in the last couple of years. They have been editing and remixing a big batch of tracks this year, which we have been testing with loads of pleasure in the last few months. Their sound is really hard to pinpoint actually, every track has it's very own feeling and, as they state themselves, are a crossover between Nu-disco, deephouse, cosmic sounds, acid, Italo and sometimes balearic disco/house even. They've also done some great mixes in the past for wonderful series like Radio Cómeme, Interstellar Tracks and Electrique.
They host a admirable podcast series too, called the Series Disko! and have hosted an amazing batch of mixes from DMDC-favourites like De Dupe, Flemming Dalum, Svelt and mixes by their own ofcourse. They've just opened their third season for the series and already had a great run so far with mixes by Timothy J. Fairplay, Club Bizarre and Kalidasa.

The Disko Selectors have been releasing some tracks, on labels like Bust A Dub, Mister Mistery and Coquette, and they show no sign of stopping them in the near future, as they have been producing a LOT this year. They have new material coming up on labels like Emerald & Doreen, Hot Elephant and Logical Records, and we are happy to announce that they have their first original track coming up on Bordello A Parigi over the next few months. It is part of a new compilation series for the label called Riviera Disco and the Disko Selectors will be joined by three different artists for the first round of the series. We can't give you any more info on that right now, but it looks like the release will hit the stores somewhere around january.

For the Deathmetaldiscoclub podcast, they decided to do things a little bit different than they are used to. This is their hommage to the golden era of casette, white labels and the DIY-approach from the electronic 80's. These mixes can get a bit difficult for audiences in general, but Roi and Javi have done an amazing job on this, preserving a fine balance between the tracks without getting to arty farty about it. We've never lost attention to this amazing 2,5 hour ride. Loads of classics and re-issued tracks on this one, but also lots of forgotten gems that we've probably never heard if it wasn't for the Disko Selectors.

Check out the links below for more on Disko Selectors and the Series Disko! and a big shout out to Roi and Javi for this fine delivery. It is an absolute delight to host this
badass mix. ENJOY FRIENDS!!!!

VA - Musik For Autobahns Sampler

Amsterdam's Rush Hour has released the Musik For Autobahns album earlier this year, a compilation that was compiled by Gerd Janson which had popular and less popular acts showcasing their "more contemporary" personalities. Now, they are about to release a sampler dedicated to that release.
The sampler contains five tracks from artists like Acoustic High-End Research, Osborne and Suzanna Kraft. Although not exclusive tracks (they were all included in the comp.), they do feel like the best tracks in retrospect.

In our honest oppinion, the sampler is nothing more than a 'best of' of the compilation, but it's a great release for those who don't want to spend their money on the full release. And to be truthful, Young Marco's 'In The Wind' still feels as mesmerizing as it did before! It is most definetly a great weapon to the ones who like to ride the more edgier sides of electronic music.

'Musik for Autobahns' will be released by Rush Hour somewhere in the month September on black 12" inch vinyl. An exact release dat hasn't been announced but it should be out anytime soon now. Essential!

Episode #005 - Viktor Palmer

Our fifth guest is Viktor Palmer, who sent us a really versatile, thought-provoking mix for our series. Containing tracks from labels like Blackest Ever Black, Sähkö and Minimal Wave, we probably said enough. He was kind enough to include us the story behind the mix (scroll down below).
Viktor Palmer, based in Amsterdam, is known for his dubby, melancholic, rhythmic and minimalistic techno sets at Trouw. Dropping a lot of obscure and hard-to-find records, we instantly recognized him as a real crate digger. Playing events like Imprint and LET at the infamous Amsterdam venue gave him a lot of exposure and while doing so, certainly left an expression on us. We're pleased to have him on the show and we hope you enjoy this as much as we do!

DeathMetalDiscoClub #005 in Viktor's own words:

"In the past i made a few non-techno mixes like this one. The idea was simple:
compile and mix an hour of music which sounded as claustrophobic and
unpleasant as possible. Soundscapes, almost no straight beats or vocals and
above all: nothing really danceable.

When Death Metal Disco Club asked me to make a podcast where I could do
whatever music I liked, I thought: ‘Let’s bake a cake from that old recipe!’ (well
not really but you know what I mean). So I finished one and it didn’t feel right. It
felt like copying myself, working ‘in the box’, routine-like.

Then I knew I had to do something else. Since I’ve been listening more new
wave/cold wave and synth pop than before, I wanted to combine those sounds
with the more conceptual, non-danceable stuff. Marcel Dettmann did something
like it for Oki-Ni. Check it out, the mix is called ‘Seduction’ and it’s awesome. So
i ditched the mix I made and started with a complete new one, minus the last
track.

First I wanted to use the most strange, bizarre and hard-to-find new wave I could
find, but that didn’t feel right either. After all, non-danceble tracks on the mix are
from Raime, Mika Vainio and Brian Eno, pretty well-known for people who listen
to that kind of music anyway. So I used ‘hits’ from Tropic of Cancer, Suicide, Pas
de Deux and In Aeternam Vale. Music from the Sandwell District Radio mix 2,
Silent Servant mixes and from the Minimal Wave Tape compilations. Maybe not
common for a lot of people, but no ultra-rare, limited edition, 40-euro-on-discogs
stuff if you know what I mean.

I am aware of the fact that the mix is still very conceptual, especially in the
beginning and the end. But I tried to make a balance between music for your
head and your feet. But even if you don’t like the conceptual parts (or the non-
conceptual parts), I hope you enjoy the podcast as a (semi-) coherent piece of
music. Or even better, discover a certain track you love and start searching the
internet or your recordstore for more music like it. If that’s the case, I hope you
let me know. Thanks for reading this really long description too."
